What is the Safety Turtle?
The safety Turtle is a unique drowning protection device, invented by the
President of Terrapin Communications Mr Bob Lyons, launched in 1998 Terrapin
Communications now sell over 20'000 units a year around the world.
 The
Safety Turtle system includes a locking wristband, designed in the shape of
a colourful turtle that is worn on the child's wrist. The wristband instantly
detects immersion in water and sends a radio signal to a base station in the
home, sounding a loud alarm. The Safety Turtle is designed so that rain and
spray from lawn sprinklers won't trigger the alarm, but a toddler wading into a
pool or lake will.
 The
wristband is a Turtle shaped device that secures to your child's wrist or
your pets collar
Locked onto the child's wrist using a special key that stops your child
accidentally removing it. The Turtle comes with its own battery that is sealed
for life with-in the turtle and under normal use will last at least 3 years.
The European version comes in two colours and has a range of approximately
60mtrs from the Base Station.
 The
Safety Turtle once secured to your child wrist will stay silent and will be a
fun object for your child to wear, however if your child happens to fall into
any form of fresh water. It will send an instant signal back to the Base Station
which in-turn will immediately inform your that your child is in danger.
You can have as many same coloured Turtles as you require to only one Base
Station but they must be of the same colour.

 The
Base Station comes with its own mains adaptor and can plug either into a
13amp socket or a European Socket if used abroad. Once plugged in and inserted
with a small coinciding coloured Turtle to the same colour as the child's wrist
band. The Base Station sits there quietly awaiting a signal from the Safety
Turtle.
Once a signal is received, the Base Station will go immediately into alert mode
and will sound an alarm that can be heard at any point in an average size house.
The alarm will not stop sounding until reset by a person alerted to the danger
of there child or family pet.
The range from the Safety Turtle is 60mtrs so protection can be achieved in most
average size gardens and even the neighbours garden. The Base Station comes with
a test facility so it can be tested daily with out putting the alarm into full
alert mode.
 The
Battery Pack allows the
Base Station to become totally portable, this allows the freedom to carry
the Base Station outside the confines of the house or garden. This is ideal if
you go boating on the canals or walking by the lakes, it also allows holiday
makers to have a better peace of mind when trying to keep an eye on there
children around a busy holiday pool. It is also an essential safety device if
you live on a boat and have small children or family pets. Under normal use a
fully charges battery should last at least 9 hours and can be recharged using
the mains adaptor supplied with the Base Station or a cigarette car charger.

Safety Turtle adopted by YMCA
Ottawa, ON – May 1, 2008 – Terrapin Communications, Inc., maker of Safety
Turtle, a personal wireless immersion alarm designed to protect young children,
seniors, disabled persons and pets from drowning, today announced that its
product has been adopted by YMCA and other aquatic facilities to automatically
alert the front desk of a water rescue by one of its lifeguards. Safety Turtle
also affords a layer of protection for rehabilitation patients who exercise in
water. They wear a Turtle sun visor or a Turtle headphone for musical
accompaniment.
A Turtle instantly detects immersion in water, then transmits a signal that
sets off a loud alarm at one or more Base Stations.
Safety Turtle is the only product on the market satisfying insurance underwriter
recommendations that a portable aquatic-emergency summoning device should be
used instead of a hard-wired emergency button or telephone in a public pool
area. A Turtle attached to each lifeguard rescue buoy, which always goes into
the water during a rescue, allows a single lifeguard to respond nearly
immediately to an aquatic emergency, rather than having to travel from where
s/he was standing to the emergency call button and then to the distressed
swimmer.
The Safety Turtle personal immersion type pool alarm and wireless gate alarm
were presented and demonstrated by a CPSC water safety spokesperson on a CNN
pool safety feature that aired Saturday July 14, 2007. The segment is on
